Dr Simon Blainey is Lecturer in Transportation within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton. We emphasize quantitative single-cell and single-molecule approaches, aiming to enable multiparametric studies with the power to reveal the workings of natural and engineered biological systems across a range of scales.

Background: I am a Lecturer at the University's Transportation Research , with particular expertise in rail transport but with experience of work relating to all transport modes. Through my work at TRG I aim to make a contribution to the development of a transport network which is more sustainable, more efficient, and less costly to users, government and the environment.

    Paul Blayney joined the Faculty in 1988 following three years at the University of Technology in Lae, Papua New Guinea. It is unique for this type of book in that it has gone to the sixth edition in 2000, and few company histories in Australia have achieved such continual publishing.

    Blainey completed his undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry at the University of Washington and a MA in Chemistry from Harvard University. He held a postdoctoral appointment at Stanford University where he developed hh-throughput microoptofluidic methods for whole-genome amplification of DNA from individual, uncultivated microbial cells in Prof. Paul joined MIT as an Assistant Professor of Biological Engineering in 2012.
